This is the text of a leaflet that was supposedly delivered to Wilford residents on 12th January 2012

"Tram site clearance works along former railway embankment NET Phase Two, the project to build lines Two and Three of Nottingham’s tram network, has been given the final go-ahead with the first stage of construction works starting this month.

We will provide you with more details about the construction programme in due course, and how you can get up-to-date information on all aspects of the project.

Initially, from Monday 23rd January 2012 for approximately five weeks vegetation and tree clearance works will take place along the proposed tramway route between Coronation Avenue in Wilford Village to the A52 Clifton Boulevard underpass located to the south of Ruddington Lane.

This work has to be carried out at this time of the year to avoid the start of the bird nesting season in spring.

The works will be carried out between 8am - 8pm, Monday - Friday and possibly 8am - 1pm on Saturdays in accordance with the Code of Construction Practice (CoCP) agreed at the NET Phase Two public inquiry held in 2007. There may be some noise during the works as chain saws and other machinery will be used.

Coronation Avenue to Wilford Lane

For most of the section between Coronation Avenue and Wilford Lane, the tramway will run to the east of the former railway embankment, and initial works will involve vegetation clearance and some tree felling. More extensive tree felling across the whole embankment is required in the 200 metres approaching Wilford Lane, where the tramway is due to run along the line of the former railway embankment. The footpath between Coronation Avenue and Wilford Lane will remain open throughout the felling and clearance works as will the paths that run through the area which connect up with Bede Ling and Gresham Park Road.

Work areas will be fenced off each day. Trees that are cut down and vegetation cleared will be removed each day and so too will the fencing, unless the ground is too wet and unsafe following the works, in which case it will remain for a short period.

Wilford Lane to Ruddington Lane, and beyond to the A52 (Clifton Boulevard) underpass

Tree felling and vegetation clearance works will also take place along the former railway embankment between Wilford Lane and the A52 underpass. This section of the former railway embankment will be closed for the duration of the clearance works, including the path that runs along the embankment. The section will be fenced off and public access will not be available until the clearance works have been completed. However, the path crossing the embankment between Ruddington Lane recreation ground and Ascott Gardens (Compton Acres) will be kept open during the clearance works.

Following the clearance works there will be a pause in the works in this area until late spring/early summer when works to excavate and remove the former railway embankment will commence. We will contact you again about those works nearer the time.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that these works may cause you, and would like to assure you that we will do all that we can to keep disruption to a minimum.
