between Bader Road
and the school.
KC/BC expressed continued concern about the parking
opposite their property and in front of the
garage. Suggestions of dealing
with vehicles mounting the flood bank by putting
bollards and barriers
in place, bearing in mind environmental issues and
grass cutting.
v)
Safer, greener and

vi)
Library – see item 5
5. Library
BH and
JS-C had attended a meeting on the 6th April at the library with
Christina
Dyer, Helen Pollard, Andrew Price, Brendan Clarke-Smith and
John
Melenham.
BH
reported as follows:
It is
recognised the building is in a poor state but the council has no money to do
anything.
It was
acknowledged that Wilford has grown in recent years with many new developments
And that
Compton Acres is in a different area but it is the nearest library to use.
Christina
Dyer said current trends was to order books via phone and internet and the
future
Could see
deliveries to home (via pizza delivery vans etc) people using libraries had
decreased.
106
money from our area had been used to develop a sports field in another area,
therefore,
could we
not have use of 106 funds from another area to help fund a new library?
Sufficient
space is apparently available to expand the library area but plans need to be
examined
to see what area is already owned and available. The ideal size would be about
50% of
Clifton Library.
To
obtain expansion it would have to be a joint expansion with say - family
learning – a
Commercial
partner (no commercial facilities in
Wilford area) - joint service centre –
Doctors’/meeting
room. Funds from Rushcliffe may be
possible but would at best be on a
year to
year basis which could be cancelled at any time and therefore not reliable.
Area
Committee will allocate some of its £40K
grant toward Wilford Library next year.
Look at
education funding possibilities and increasing usage by providing wider council
Services
such as One Stop. Talk to the schools about
their links. Include an item in the
newsletter. Everyone to write to Alan Simpson. JS-C will
write to Jim Silver, Councillor ALL
for
Rushcliffe. JS-C
Library
to survey from records who use to library either from our area or other – also to
produce costing
to show cost of expanding opening hours (to include Saturday afternoons)
All opening
has to include two people for security and practical reasons. The Councillors
Are to
examine various schemes to see what money is possible for development. They will
e-mail
Jonathon with progress.
It is
possible that the opening hours of the library will improve in the near future.
6. Potential
Group Boundary Change
It is proposed that we should consider expanding our
boundary to include properties up
To the railway line also Barnfield and Fieldway. Out of courtesy we would have to consult
With Silverdale Association. RS to pursue this matter.
Publicise the motion in newsletter. RS
7. Volunteer
Sector Grants and Spring Clean 2005
RS asked have we any issues? A resident has requested more litter bins, in particular,
by the schools.
Put this as an item in newsletter.
JS-C reported an abandoned car
on Vernon Avenue and will contact Dave Stretton if it
is still there in a couple of days JS-C
SA reported that we had £486 in fund and is applying
for a top-up grant of £500. RS
suggested it would be better to defer until after JS-C
has e-mailed Vicky about a JS-C
Grant for the Community Development Fund.
8. Neighbourhood
Watch
BH has regular e-mails from Police, which are
distributed. BH feels it reduces
Crime through vigilance.
9. Gardens Open
Day Update (including Raffle)
Scarecrow Competition Leaflets ready for
printing. Free printing via BH. Give to
Schools as soon as possible.
SA agreed to a spending limit of £100 for other
printing purposes.
Printing needs are 200 quiz sheets, Fly leaflets,
Posters and maps.
2 banners and fingerboards which RS already has but
needs to investigate the RS
wording on the banners. Dorothy Hardie would be able to help with any printing
through the NKRF.
Raffle – JS-C had a quote for 200 tickets of £30 plus
£35 for the licence. It
Was decided to go ahead with the raffle in this
format. The draw date will be
Wednesday 29/06 with an independent witness. BH, KC and SA to discuss what BH,SA
is on ticket KC
10. Newsletter
RS would like to get away from the wording ‘Tenants’
and Residents’ Association’
and instead use ‘This is Wilford’. RS would also like a Chairman’s column. Items
to be included are the library, Join the Committee,
Open Gardens, the tram (RS) RS
and an item “due to the vigilance of a local resident
a successful prosecution has
taken place and it is up to report incidents.”
Scarecrow competition leaflet to be delivered at the
same time. RS knows someone
who will deliver the newsletter free of charge.
11. Motorbike
update
BR reported on the successful prosecution of a young
rider.
12. AOB
1) RS had
attended the Area Committee meeting.
One of the items was about the
largest elderly persons secure housing
estate is being built next to the Nobel Road
Estate.
2)
DB – concerned that the
tree planting on the river bank has not been done
3)
JF – The pavements,
particularly on Ruddington Lane, are in a very poor
condition and not suitable for wheelchairs or invalid
scooters. JF asked to JF
write to Council.
4)
RS – Gresham Park Tram –
invite local residents to give us their views.
13. Date of AGM
Several dates were suggested none found suitable and
this would be an early agenda
item for the next meeting. RS preferred date is the 28th July.
14. Date and
venue of nextmeeting
Wednesday 4th May 2005 – no fixed
venue. The Harvester was not considered
appropriate by most of the committee. RS will arrange venue. RS
(Apologies from JF who will be away on this date)

meeting closed at 10.35 pm
