Minutes of 19th November Committee Meeting

One correction was made to item 4. in the minutes.  The library can make use of land attached to the council house at the rear not the house.  With this amendment the minutes were agreed.

191 Bus Service

Some local residents joined the meeting for this item.    BH reported that at the last Area Committee Meeting there was a formal response to concerns from the City Council.  DB had also written to Nottingham Community Transport, who are responsible for the service.  (This letter can be viewed on the thisiswilford website.)  The following points were noted:

a)       Route-  NCC acknowledged that the bus had been turning round at the village green and not following the designated route along Coronation Avenue and Vernon Avenue.  Although the drivers are obliged to follow the proper route, in this case cars sometimes obstruct the route and it was done as a way of avoiding damage.  Some drivers won’t drive down Main Road during the congested school ‘out’ time between 3.00 and 4.00 p.m. because it is impossible to get through which is inconvenient for Wilford Village passengers. Group members wondered whether new yellow lines will help to easy the situation.  This remains to be seen.

b)       Vehicle size for early buses -  NCT say no other buses are available for this route and reported that, in any case, the route is generally underused.  Seat booking had been suggested as one way of coping with occasional pressure but this was deemed to be too complicated.

c)       Attitude of drivers – DB had handed out a comment form on Friday 9th March.  There had been only 2 responses, one of which was very positive.

d)       The closure of the Dorothy Boot homes may mean that there is less pressure on the service.

DB will invite the NCT representative to the group’s May meeting to discuss further.

AGM

DB will try to book the School Hall (first choice) or the Benjamin Carter Hall.  It was suggested that Councillor Tim Spencer is invited to act as independent chairman.  He is chair of the Area Committee this year.

Any Other Business

a.       DB has noticed that the agent for the Dorothy Boot homes is based in Grantham.  He will write to them about security following the recent break-in.

b.       One resident attending the meeting had tripped and fallen due to a poorly maintained surface and sustained a bad facial injury as a result.  The daughter of a group member had broken her arm as a result of a hole left in the Bee Bank when a tree was removed.  It was suggested that damage may have been caused to road surfaces during the building of Manor Close.  DB will write to the appropriate department of NCC.

c.       KC expressed a concern that action might be taken against residents who do not retrieve their bins from the pavement after collection.  All agreed that this probably only applied to those who leave the bins out for days or weeks and that it was best not to do anything unless this becomes a problem in our area.

d.       SA will arranged for the group’s accounts to be audited.

e.       BR, along with some other local residents had been contacted by the Council about an anti-social behaviour survey.  The group felt the questions asked were not helpful.  DB noted that motorcycle noise had just started up again.   DB will write to John Lee to request a barrier at the bridge near the allotments to try to stop this run.  He will also write to the Environment Agency about lighting we had expected to be in place on the new footpath by the river.

f.         FW noted that new lamp posts have been erected along Main Road suggesting that new lights are to be installed.

g.       FW again raised the matter of the Ozone development on the embankment which groups members are very concerned about.  More details are now available on the City Council website.
