Matters Arising from Minutes of Extraordinary Committee Meeting of 9 June

  1. It was reiterated that there will be no caviat on letters of comment/objection to the council or others pointing out that not all committee members agree with the detail of the letter.  Committee rules say that the majority vote is the decision of the committee and WCG should be able to account back to the community for any action they take on behalf of residents.  Individuals are at liberty to write with their own opinion if they wish.

All above minutes were approved.

Matters Arising

a.   Junction of Main Road/Wilford Lane – there is  concern in the group that an accident may soon occur at the traffic lights due to the absence of a right turn light.  Many drivers coming from the Clifton direction go through amber/red lights, often at speed, giving right turners little opportunity to get into Main Road.  At peak times this causes considerable congestion and delay.  Bob Atherton commented that a red light camera or a new filter light would require substantial expenditure whilst changing the phasing to allow right turners more time could be done relatively easily and cheaply.  It was suggested that Wilford residents might monitor the situation and several were willing to do this.  BH to consider and possibly discuss with PC Nigel Brown.

b.       It was agreed that ST would write to Darren Tattersall requesting litter bins as follows:  1 at the flats, 2 near the pond, 1 at Emmanuel School entrance , 1 at the south end of the Bee Bank and 2 on Main Road between the bridge and The Ferry.  In a connected discussion it was agreed that fortnightly collection of household waste was adequate for most people,

c.       Iremonger’s Pond – 11 local residents and committee members had expressed an interest in visiting the pond with Diane Moore (Community Landscape Architect).  BH will email  her to encourage her to contact WCG soon.  SA noted that access to the Pond is quite difficult.

Secretary’s role and responsibilities in 2007/08

DB will be very busy in his job over the next few months.  He agreed to deal with issues related to the library, the tram and public enquiry and significant planning applications.  He asked that WCG committee members bringing issues to meetings write any relevant letters themselves in line with committee decisions.  DB will circulate the letter head template to everyone and all agreed to help by taking on some of these tasks.

DB had sent the letter agreed by the Committee to the Secretary of State.  He had now been asked to decide within 14 days whether the group wishes to provide verbal information at the public enquiry.  Several options were considered and it was agreed that the brief letter already submitted should be expanded and some photographs included. Committee members would attend the enquiry to present it verbally.  There was further discussion about the possibility of obtaining information about the conduct of a public enquiry from a barrister.  A Vernon Avenue resident may be willing to help and JF agreed to contact a barrister she knows in London for some advice.

DB agreed to re-circulate his letter.
