The Chair welcomed
David Saunders, Group Development officer for Nottingham Council for
Voluntary Service. He supports and
assists groups to improve their operation.
He had attended the meeting to see if he could support WCG in applying
for funds for various projects. SA
explained that we normally have only a small council grant to cover running
expenses. However, Josie is involved
in establishing a Heritage Train through Wilford Village and funding is
needed for seats, signs etc. Mr. Saunders
suggested the East Midlands Area Community Fund and the O2 'It's Your
Community Award'. NCVS would support
our application i.e. help us to do it properly. He said a committee member
could visit his office to access the website 'Funder Finder and he gave the
group several leaflets with relevant information. ES reminded WCG that they
need to work out a clear funding strategy before they go any further. Thanks to Mr. Saunders
for coming. |

Crime Report:
PC Nigel Brown reported 24 crimes committed over the whole of Wilford
& Silverdale in November 2008 with very low (although not specific)
figures in December too. Rachel
Shacklock had been appointed as a new Community Protection Officer for the
area. She is based in The Meadows and
part of her brief is to help set up
Neighbourhood Watch schemes. JF
agreed to meet Rachel to discuss for her part of Wilford. |

Matters Arising from Minutes of the Previous
Meeting: l
broken Bader Road sign – ES thinks this has been ordered but not
arrived. She will check. l
Bowls Club finances – these are in great difficulties. ES and BH had spoken to Councillor Andrew
Price who will be attending the club AGM next week. He felt it should be possible to help the club. l
Vernon Ave/area backing on to embankment – Ann Murphy had been
approached by ES but she this this is “chamber” land i.e. It has been
abandoned by its owners and therefore the council is not responsible for tree
pruning. However, she would be
prepared to look at the area with a committee member. |

Report from Area 9 Meeting: not a great deal
relevant just to Wilford was discussed this time. However, if WCG or residents are interested in obtaining
starter packs of plants and compost for from Nottingham in Bloom they could contact
ES. More info. Is available at the
Central Library. This could be useful
info. for the website and notice boards. |

Any Other Business: l
Pigeon Bridge (behind Vernon Ave)- RS wondered whether anyone had
assessed the safety of this bridge. He also mentioned that lights are needed
on that path, specially now that so many school children are using it. PC
Brown agreed and pupils at the school (Emmanuel) have also expressed their
concern. l
Recycling bins at Maypole Pub – this is only a temporary site and
will eventually be returned to the Co0p. l
ES asked WCG for info. About areas that could benefit in the Big
Clean Up in March. The area under
Clifton Bridge by the sewerage plant behind the Harvester was suggested as
were the pigeon bridge and Iremonger's Pond.
Anyone interested can join in with this clean up. The Pond group are
having their own on 28 February. l
It was noted that there is a messy area at the entrance to the Old
Vicarage next to the Ferry Inn. It
was suggested that the Vicarage owner (Mr. De Rosa) would probably be helpful
with this. l
FW suggested placing bird boxes on trees on the village green. Could we seek funding for this? l
RS urged WCG members to sign an on-line petition to get the
suspension bridge re-opened. He also
wants WCG to join the campaign for this.
BH had previously written to the group to offer our support. l
BR reported that the Iremonger's Pond group is going well. They are
not happy with the stepping stone arrangement at the far end of the pond and
will be taking this up with the Environment Agency. l
Alan Foster (resident) noted that some of the wooden pillars around
the village green have been destroyed and some drivers are beginning to park
there occasionally. It would be good
to get them replaced. l
DA had noticed that notice board displays need improving and will
check them so see what can be done. |
