Matters Arising from the Minutes of the last meeting:

Minutes of the previous meeting had not been made available to committee members.  ST raised matters from notes taken at the time.

  • Nottingham in Bloom – BR reported that judging will take place throughout June.  Date for Wilford not yet known.  It could be an evening if this is more convenient.  Planting had been completed in the 3 areas (Holly Avenue, Ruddington Lane, south end of the Bee Bank).  One pot planted by BR had already been wrecked by passing youths.  ST to ask BH to send photos of Holly Avenue planting to BR.
  • Bowls Club – the possibility of linking up with their committee was raised in order to discuss possible wider use of the club by members of the local community, particularly young people.  Cllr. Andrew Price had informed a WCG member that the club could be developed as a sports training centre with links with schools and bowls coaching on offer.  It was noted that the club does already have a Sunday morning coaching session for anyone interested and has suggested a community day when various groups would be invited in.  DA believed that 12-16 year old might be interested in a bowls experience and ES suggested a ‘taster day’.  RS will pursue this idea with the Bowls Club committee.  ES reminded WCG that outdoor gym facilities are available to local people in the Flower Park in Clifton.  A ‘taster day’ when use of the equipment will be explained etc. is to be arranged in July with a Sports Development Officer present.  Any group interested would need to apply to attend.  Information and possibly pictures of the gym to be sent to DB for inclusion on the WCG website.

3.

Crime Figures:  PC Brown was congratulated on the award of a MBE by the queen in recognition of 34 years of unbroken service in the Police force. In the Silverdale and Wilford areas crimes in March were 20, April 19 and May 17.  There were no specific issues currently.  Car crimes were mostly break-ins to vehicles.  No crimes at The Harvester recently – a great improvement.  Community officers had been out this morning pursuing dog owners who allow animals to fowl public places.   There is not yet any full time replacement of our Community Protection Officer.  No update on the ‘cold calling’ initiative.  PC Brown had asked for the white cycle lines to be repainted outside the Post Office.

4.

WCG AGM:   modest refreshments could be provided at a cost of £3 per head but this idea was rejected as unlikely to act as an incentive to attend.  It was suggested that the development of the Bader Road cycle path network could be used as a major item of interest at the meeting.  This would allow affected residents to put their views forward and take an active part in the consultation process.  ES would invite the relevant council officer to do the presentation.  ES reported that NCC would be circulating a leaflet to 100 residents in the Bader Road area and this would tell them about the item on WCG AGM agenda.  Could DB put notice on the boards?

5.

Suspension Bridge:  ST enquired whether WCG member had all seen the letter with information about repairs to the bridge.  They had.

7.

Any other business:

  • FW had received a response from the Highways Agency about concerns relating to possible congestion caused by A453 widening.  They claim that the widening will reduce problems at the Silverdale roundabout during rush hours.
  • The picnic at the pond (Iremongers) had been attended by 20-30 people, less than had been hoped. Cllr. Price had attended and expressed interest in pursing costs etc. for installing a bridge in place of the stepping stones.  BR stated that this is a matter for WCG to pursue, not the Pond Associations as they are quite happy with the stepping stones.  Nevertheless, if a bridge is required they would offer their support. Memberships for anglers were now being accepted by the group.
  • ES had established that lighting along the footpath near the ‘Pigeon Bridge’ would be part of the Gresham Parks and the foot/cycle paths developments.  She had tried to get agreement for re-surfacing under the bridge but there might not be enough money in the budget for this.  If it is improved the whole of the footpath beside the allotments would be surfaced too.
  • ES had been asked to complete a flood response plan to ensure local residents know where to go fo safety in the event of a serious flood.  Community representatives (e.g. IPA, WCG) would be notified of any contingency plans.  ES will send the questionnaire to WCG.
  • ES reported that a community safety event for over 50s will be held at Wilford Church Hall on Wednesday 12 August 10am – 2pm.  Publicity to come.
  • ES noted that Wilford does not have a representative o the open and green spaces working group which meets monthly.  Anyone interested could attend the next meting on Wednesday 17 June 6pm at Cornerstone in Clifton.
  • The group was informed of The Big Lunch on Sunday 19 July when communities are encouraged to get together for lunch in a public place accessibly to all
  • ES to write to the leaseholders of the Glebe Allotment some of which are very neglected.
  • DA was given a key to notice boards.

The meeting closed at 9.30 p.m.
