Open Gardens

David Rowe would like to be involved in future

events.  He wants to purchase marquees used for

the summer school and make these available for

any future plans involving an open day. Roger

Perryman had discussed this with RS.

At this point JF said she did not wish to be the

co-ordinator next year.

BH suggested the committee, as a whole should be

involved and a specific meeting be held  to deal

with the garden trail/open day etc, rather than during

a WCG meeting. This was agreed with a further

suggestion that it should be held during October/

November.

DB asked for comments on Newsletter.  RS asked for the ‘The

Tenants and Residents Association for Wilford’ be removed from

all future issues of the Newsletter, the committee were all in favour.

alterations with more emphasis on “This is Wilford”.

grounds that the proposed properties lack architectural quality

6.        Library

The current library building is dilapidated, it is only open

part-time and Wilford is a growing community.

RS has spoken to Andrew Price about a new library, who is aware of

our concerns.  RS suggested that BH talk to Andrew Price about how               BH

                         we can progress actions.

7.        Neighbourhood Watch

BH informed us there is no truth in the rumour that Neighbourhood

Watch is about to be disbanded.

Being a Street Co-ordinator, BH said Neighbourhood

Watch should become an Agenda Item with co-ordinators having

                         an open invitation to attend.

8.       Telephone Box/Pillar Box

RS was able to pass on to BT the information about the

Telephone box being a ‘listed building’ BT now have an

obligation to consider repair of the telephone box.

RS confirmed, with photographs, that the pillar-box is Victorian.

                         next meeting.

10.     Any Other Business

(i)    Area Committee – in view of the proposed change to

Community representation (paper submitted for WCG

Considerations), the next meeting is at Green Lane

on Wednesday 8th September and at Emmanuel

School, Wednesday 10th November – any member may

      may attend as observers.

(ii)   Motorbikes – DB was very concerned about safety

issues when bikers were circling round Vernon Avenue

on Friday 30th July, he e-mailed and phoned PC

Nigel Brown and also took a photo of the offenders.

A similar happening occurred on Sunday 1st August

between the hours of 3.00 am and 5.45 am.

DB will draft a leaflet giving PC Brown’s number and            DB

urge local residents to contact him about this nuisance.

KC and BH offered to help with distribution of Main Road        KC/BH

and Holly Avenue, DB would distribute on Vernon Avenue.

(iii)                RS - Grant Application for Open Gardens– has been rejected

because it was too late.  Grant Applications need 8 weeks to

process.  There are two options. (1) ask Councillors on our behalf

or (2) apply now, for next year.  SA said we couldn’t apply for a

grant until we had specific details of an event.

Are we able to have a grant for insurance purposes? SA to pursue.            SA
