Review of outstanding actions
Item 5 Suggestions and ideas
i)
Walking tour of Wilford
in essence David Miller had
agreed, however, Dave Ball suggested that a formal
invitation should be sent to David to make it a firm
decision. JF
offered to write confirming the date
and times of the event, two walks one in the morning
and one in the afternoon. JF
A quiz was also suggested. Karen Gregg thought
the Cubs/Scouts could organise one
involving the
Open Gardens. KG
ii)
Maypole Dancing Helen
Lander said the girls
would perform twice during the day.
The Guides/Brownies would have a
stall and
Guides would be available to
help with refreshments
either in the hall or gardens.
iii)
Scarecrow Competition
DB offered to draw up DB
an entry form with four age categories
with a First
Prize of £25 for each category ie under
5s, 5-10,
Action
11-16 and adult. BH reported he had four sponsors
offering the prize money of £25.00 each.
The Bowls and Social Club and Plumtree
Garage,
the other two he would name at the next
meeting. BH
iv)
Scouts car wash
after discussion this did not seem
a good idea as it would be difficult to
locate and
would require a lot of supervision. Alternatively
Karen Gregg offered to organise a BBQ in
the paddock.
KG would ask via the PTA about equipment
and food. KG
BH would also ask at Sainsburys about
sponsoring BH
with Sausages and Burgers.
v)
Hanging Baskets a good
idea but not to have it as
a competition through advertising encourage residents
to have a tub or a basket and JF would write to the JF
local businesses inviting them to have tubs etc.
outside their premises.
vi) Hand Bell Group carried over JS-C
vii) Battleman carried over SA
viii)
Raffle Boots have
donated 8 boxes of prizes to
KC, the Maypole have offered free meal tokens and
BH will speak to Dave Adams who has offered prizes. BH
These will be used for a tombola in KC/BCs
garden, proceeds
from which will go to the WCG. KC
ix) Gardens
see Item 6
x)
Gleeds marquee no
longer available.
4.
Charities
it was unanimously agreed to support the Kidney
Unit and the Burns Unit at the City Hospital with a
60/40 split with
60% going to the kidney unit. The tombola proceeds will go to the
Wilford Community Group. All the entrance money and donations
from the various events to go to the 60/40 split.
5.
Event Name
Wilford Open Gardens and Fete.
6.
Open Gardens
Neil Devonport, 16 Roland Avenue, has
offered to open his garden and David Rowe will open
the
Rectory Garden.
JS-C said there is a possibility that the South
Wilford School will have their wild garden ready in
time for JS-C
the 26th June. The children will make garden trays, which will be
placed on the path leading to the school.
Action
JF will write a letter to two residents on Main Road
who may, JF
with a little persuasion, open their garden.
7.
Refreshments
Pixie Rowe will be running a Fairtrade
Market in the hall and JS-C will ask if tea and coffee
can be
organised by the church members. JS-C
8.
Advertising
Karen to ask her neighbour Robin
Price
(133 Main Road) about sponsorship from Experian.
JF to ask Dorothy Hardie (Kidney Unit) what they
offer with regard to publicity/press releases.
Radio Nottingham has a web site.
The Judging of the Scarecrow Competition either
Dominic
Heale, or the Manager of the Ferry Inn.
9.
Costs SA
did not think we would be able to get a grant as
the Open Day was raising funds for charity, but she
would SA
investigate the situation. Insurance to cover this event is £65.
10. Church
- The Church will be open all day and if anyone
is available the tower will also
be open. David Rowe has
suggested (weather permitting)
evensong on the Green.
11.
History
David Ball said the History committee felt unable
to mount the display units for such a short period of
time. The
Units were large and very heavy and they did not feel
the short
length of time warranted the manpower required. They would
display 30 A4 folders for reading but would require
tables and
chairs, of which there was a short supply of tables in
the halls.
They would not be able to donate to the charities
because
there would be no entrance money.
WCG committee offered help with transport and manpower
on
Saturday/Sunday to erect and dismantle these units
because people
preferred to look at pictures etc. rather than just
read books.
David said he would return to his committee and let us
know D.Ball
their decision.
A donation would not be necessary, as the entrance
money
is an all-inclusive fee to all events.
12.
Womens
Institute Pauline Smith explained
that it was
the WIs 90th birthday (nationally) and our
special effort would
be a home produce and bookstall in the church hall.
