In May 2008, Wilford Community Group and City Council Youth Service gave the young people of Wilford the opportunity to say what facilities they would like for their age group in the Wilford area. A survey was carried out, refreshments were provided and there was a climbing wall for a bit of fun. The event was ably supported by ward councillor Brendan Clarke-Smith who gamely attempted the climbing wall in his office attire (although he did take his jacket off!).
The overwhelming message from Wilford’s young people was that they wanted facilities that they could use, but they should be located in Wilford so that they are easily-accessible.
Whilst the provision of something within Wilford is a long-term challenge, there are facilities that the young people of Wilford can be taken to, supervised and brought back again – Wilford Community Group and the Youth Service will work together to organise such events.
